If you already know what the acronym SYTYCD stands for, the chance is pretty good that you know what DWTS stands for (even if you don’t, it’s not too late to start learning). If you, like lots of other people, have no clue either of these two is, like I just said, it’s not too late to start learning… =)
Lots of buzz has been going around everywhere since the celebrity cast has been announced and I figure, being a fan myself, maybe I should blog a little about it, too.
Of the announced celebrities, the only name I recognize is Mark Cuban, the Dallas Mavericks owner and billionaire entrepreneur. He’s partnered with Kym Johnson, who if I remember correctly seems to be a head taller than Mr. Cuban, so that’s kinda an odd pairing. I actually like more about the announced professionals. They added Derek Hough and Mark Ballas. If they choreograph anywhere near what Julianne Hough (reigning champion) did last year, this will be an exciting season.
With 3 male celebrities winning 3 years in a row, I’m sure the quality of this year’s female contestants will be up a notch, because ABC, more than anybody, needs a female to win just to break the theory that a woman cannot win this show. The theory exists mostly because
1. Most viewers are female. They tend to vote for male contestants more.
2. Ballroom dancing itself is the type of dance that shows off the female. Women has a tougher job because the slightest bit of awkwardness or inadequacy will be shown off very visibly.
It seems this season there are quite a few female celebrities people are talking about and expecting to do very well (though I know nothing about them), which is a very good thing. Now if only they also improve on the music selection, this will be a promising season to look forward to.
